Reporting to the Executive Director, Government & Community Relations, the Manager, Community Relations is accountable to lead the development and maintenance of key community and domestic partnerships and the implementation of Brock’s Community Engagement Strategic Plan. The Manager will be responsible for maintaining positive relationships and communication with external stakeholders. The manager will also work with faculty, staff and departments in building partnership opportunities. The Manager will support the achievement of Brock’s strategic priorities for community engagement and tracking progress. Lastly, the Manager is responsible for effectively engaging with the broader community on behalf of Brock to ensure that the University fulfills its commitment to being an open, welcoming and accessible resource to the community. 
 
As the Manager, you will:
 
  • Plan, lead, coordinate and support initiatives to implement the University’s strategic plan for community engagement and special projects;
  • Coordinate, support and facilitate university-wide engagement initiatives to foster a culture of engagement, knowledge mobilization, open and accessible resources and communication;
  • Develop reports and metrics related to community partnership activities for reporting to senior administration, board of trustees, government and funders, community partners and the Brock community;
  • In partnership with internal stakeholders, actively seek out opportunities to develop formal partnerships with key external community agencies and organizations and negotiation of MOUs;
  • Provide support to the Executive Director and senior administration for external community engagement activities and committees with other levels of government, funders and community partners;
  • Liaise with faculty, senior administration, staff and student organizations to identify needs, opportunities and gaps for community engagement and partnerships that support the University’s strategic priorities;
  • Prepare standard operating procedures, policies and guidelines for community engagement;
  • Actively seek out opportunities for senior leadership and faculty to participate in community organization events;
  • Lead, facilitate and support events to bring together internal stakeholders, community partners and the Brock community;
  • Create opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships with community agencies and organizations including actively explore opportunities for applied research projects in support of community agencies and organizations;
  • Work with internal stakeholders and external community partners to simplify the process of engaging with Brock and communicate the University’s assets, resources and opportunities for community partnerships;
  • Supporting ongoing relationships between Brock and community partners;
  • Support communications related to key community partnerships and special projects that have significant community engagement and/or interest;
  • Prepare written and visual briefings and materials for use by senior management in communicating with partners, government stakeholders and the Brock community;
  • Provides leadership to Community Relations portfolio and its staff.
 
This may be the right opportunity for you, if you have: 
 
  • An undergraduate degree in a related field and/or discipline;
  • At least seven years of relevant community relations, government, advancement or communications experience;
  • Knowledge and experience in building community partnerships and relationships on behalf of an organization;
  • Ability to problem solve, identify opportunities and challenges, and develop solutions that can be achieved through partnerships;
  • Deep understanding of Brocks' interests and strategic direction and how it can translate into potential strategic partnerships with community agencies and organizations;
  • Understanding of the post-secondary sector, broader public sector, community leaders and the Niagara region;
  • Ability to stay up-to-date with all relevant changes within the university, including programs, research and community connections;
  • A network of contacts with organizational leaders and members of public office;
  • Working knowledge of all aspects of the University's infrastructure, research, and community outreach plans;
  • Persuasive argument technique with the ability to reason in a logical manner;
  • Proven track record in building strong long-term relationships and rapport;
  • Ability to represent Brock University to community agencies and organizations at every level and influence decisions and outcomes;
  • Strong communication and analytical skills;
  • Ability to coach, mentor, persuade, and motivate individuals;
  • Strong issues management and conflict resolution skills with the ability to communicate tactfully and diplomatically;
  • Proven ability to organize and handle a variety of projects, deadlines, and schedules simultaneously and independently.
 
Preferred or Asset Skills:
 
  • A Master’s degree in a related field and/or discipline
 
Salary and Benefit Information
 
  • Job Grade M, Salary Scale ($60,767 to $86,531)
  • This position includes full comprehensive benefits coverage, including tuition waiver
 

Director, Organizational Design & Development

Student Programming Coordinator - Goodman School of Business

Reporting to the Director, Communications & Engagement, the Student Programming Coordinator works within the Communications and Engagement team of the Goodman School of Business (GSB) and is responsible for developing, implementing and assessing programs and opportunities that engage the wider Goodman School of Business student body and builds a spirit of belonging to Goodman.

Environmental Health & Safety Specialist

The Environmental Health & Safety Specialist assists in the development, implementation and maintenance of a broad spectrum environmental health and safety systems and initiatives, including the organization of programs and training for the prevention and management of environmental risks.

Alumni Coordinator, Goodman School of Business

The Alumni Coordinator will create, facilitate, implement, and promote programming, initiatives, and events to engage alumni and students and continuously seek to enhance the Goodman Alumni Network (GAN) and foster growth.
